Our story

PLW FITNESS is not just another gym. We’re a small, private studio in Darlington where the focus is on more than just lifting weights — it’s about lifting your whole being.

 

Founded by Paul Woodhouse, personal trainer and psychotherapist, our aim is to help local people feel healthier, happier and more confident by offering a holistic approach that blends physical training with mental and emotional wellbeing.

Our studio is carefully designed to create a welcoming, intimate environment where you can feel at home, surrounded by like-minded individuals. Here, we bring together a supportive community of people who share a passion for feeling their best, inside and out. At PLW FITNESS, you’re not just a number; you’re part of a family.

 

We place a strong emphasis on the connection between mind and body, knowing that achieving your goals goes far beyond just physical excersise. With Paul’s expertise in both personal training and psychotherapy, we guide you to unlock your full potential, fostering a deep sense of well-being, confidence, and balance.

  • Do I need to be fit to join PLW?
    Of course not. Take a look at our social media and see we aren't a bunch of athletes here. Everybody at PLW is on their own unique journey and your programme is designed to help you reach your goals at a pace that suits you. Remember, even our coaches started somewhere!
  • What if I have aches, pains or injuries?
    Part of the initial 121 evaluation session is about understanding how your body works and that includes any physical challenges. It’s up to our expert coaches to design a programme that works with or around those issues. If an exercise isn't within your scope, we offer alternatives to ensure you still get the most out of each session - without aggravating previous injuries!
  • When my trial ends, what happens next?
    It’s completely up to you. If the PLW way is working for you, you can sign up and become a member. If not, that’s fine too. There’s no obligation and no pressure to commit. We understand that your fitness journey is incredibly personal. It’s why we do what we do, the way we do it.
  • How much is a full membership?
    Starting at £119 per month all our memberships include ongoing coach support with regular health and wellbeing check-ins, access to our coaching app full of workouts, meal plans and all the guidance you need to help you achieve your goals.
  • Are there changing facilities and showers available?
    No. While we do not offer changing facilities or showers, our space is designed to make your time with us as convenient and comfortable as possible. We encourage you to come as you are, ready to work hard and achieve your goals in a space that feels like home.
  • Do you have car parking?
    There is a small private car park available on our doorstep. All visitors can stay for 120 minutes without penalty. You can also park over the road in Aldi for up to three hours.
  • What time are the sessions?
    Our timetable is flexible and easy to book in via our online system. Our sessions run from 7am in the morning all the way through to 8pm at night. You are not restricted to a set day or time each week. You have the freedom to find the times and sessions that suit you best. Speak to one of the team to find out more about our sessions and our 30 day kickstart trial. It’s a chance for you to find out how it works and if we are a good fit.
